OK ya'll could this be gold? if so what would the dark metal attatched to it be? Is there a way to easily separate it? I broke out some pieces of quartz from a quartz vein and decided to get some of the fragile layers above and below the quartz layer. These came from the layers above and/or below. It sticks to a magnet. I'm hoping I can separate the black metal from the gold metal.

A photo may help to answer your question of if what you have is gold or not, but I doubt the black material is a metal, it could be a iron ore such as magnetite which will stick to a magnet, try hitting the specimen with a hammer, if you have found gold it will not shatter/break only flatten out which will not devalue it if it's indeed gold, if it does shatter/break, it's not gold and most likely pyrite, I'm sure the black "metal" will shatter/break thus proving it's an ore containing iron and not a solid metal.
