Hello all, I'm a newbie to the Gold prospecting world, but no stranger to treasure hunting with metal detectors, as I've done it for about 40 years. I grew up in Texas and now live in SW Iowa. This last year was my first experience looking for gold and I spent a couple weeks with my youngest daughter in the Colorado Mountains South of Leadville, and a bunch of weekends in NW Missouri with some friends using our coop Gold Hog. My accumulation of Gold for 2014 was only 1/2 ozt, so lots of room for improvement. I have a 4" Keene dredge, but I don't have hardly any time spent using it. I did take it to Colorado, but being a newbie I had no clue of how cold the Colorado rivers are in July and didn't have a wetsuit. I look forward to learning from all on the forum, and hopefully contributing something, although currently I'm not certain what.

Welcome aboard. I would love to get out to Colorado to hunt sometime. What type of metal detecting have you done?

Goldrunner, while in Texas when I first started I was a heavy coin shooter on city easements, I then graduated to relics at Civil War and Indian War military camps, battlefields, and ghost towns. I have now circled back around to what research uncovers and find myself coin shooting again as battlefields don't exist in Iowa.

Grew up on coins and the civil war. Things here have gotten really tough on both counts.

Ya, you definitely need a heater for dredging in Colorado any time of the year. Welcome to the boards!
If ya need an Iowa Board let me know.
