Albemarle, NC we have waders and trapping gloves for the cold water.. Ya might let your friends know about these gloves, they are insulated and work great.

Ya I got the same ones, got two holes first time dredging with them about 4 years ago... I switched to a harbor freight version for 8 bucks a pair.. they have lasted much longer. the main difference, no over the neck strap... but each glove has very good elastic at the top to wrap around the arm nice and tight and not constantly fall down.

ive seen the harbor freight models and have told people about them if they are on a budget. you might be able to fix your other pair with a sealent called aquaseal. its rubbery and very flexable when cold. its made for fixing holes in dry tops and dry suits for kayaking in cold conditions.

I won't dig in the winter without some protection for my hands and arms. The only thing about these is once they get wet inside they will smell to high hell. Worse than stinky shoes and feet. I counter this with wearing latex gloves. No odor transfer to your hands.
