I decided to use my VLF metal detector to help identify the payline before I got my dredge on at a spot I had worked a couple times in the past. Found it worked better than I expected. There is mostly fine gold in the area I work and I have been finding much more lead in the better gold spots. I figured I may not be able to detect the fine gold, but I could detect the higher concentrations of lead. Therefore, I should dredge higher concentrations of gold along with the lead. Put together a video to show how I did it. It seems you need a detector that can handle the high black sand concentrations. I tried using my relic detector with too much interference. The VLF detectors solve this issue. I am using my new nokta fors, which is a gold specific VLF, no problems with the high mineralization of the area. Sorry for the poor quality, was pretty cold that day. I didn't include the other areas detected, just the best line I found that I actually dredged. Lots of fines, few pickers, mostly fines nothing the dahlke couldn't handle. Hope you enjoy. If you have a VLF detector and a dredge, give it a try, it may help improve your recovery too!

Do you save any quartz? It looks like that's what your gold line was interlaced with based on the underwater part of the filming.

I have some smaller pieces that were in my cons. One of the pickers has quartz with it. Saving them to check later with the detector. Think I should bring back more??

I am ashamed to say it, but I don't have a scale. Started prospecting here in TN a little over a year ago. My dad has been a prospector for years in colorado, told me there was gold in TN, started looking and haven't looked back! My goal was to fill an oz vial. Didn't happen, but since I have the dahlke think it may be time to start weighing:). On a side note, will throw it out there that I am hoping some people to meet up with as my prospecting friend moved, and the wife not into it so much anymore...not as fun going solo, and dredging much safer with other people around. If anyone looking for a dredging partner or want help exploring prospecting new areas please keep me in mind! Thanks!

You're dredging in Tennessee?
You are aware of the dredging ban and now the new very expensive permit that is required to dredge/sluice/pan in Tennessee, even on private property, I hope??

Dredging in GA currently, wanting to do more in NC. Can't in TN until GPAA has permit. I live in Knoxville and about the same travel time to gold area ga and NC, Marion area marginally closer.

That's great, I wasn't sure, when you mentioned peospecting in Tennessee I was hoping you weren't dredging there, I sure hope they get things worked out so dredging can come back to Tennessee without it costing a arm and a leg or other body parts!!!
