For anyone interested this is the info the next outing by the Allatoona Gold Panners by Rob Kelly. Rob is very informative about Gold around Cherokee Co. Ga. and surrounding area. If You need anymore info let me know.
Allatoona Gold Panners – Next panning event Saturday, August 16. See details below.
What - Gold Panning Outing.
When - Saturday, August 16, 2014, 9:30 am. If inclement weather, outing is canceled. We usually stay 3-5 hours, but you can depart anytime. Panners Flea Market at 9:00.
Meet at - Little River Marina Store, 6983 Bells Ferry Rd, Canton, GA. It's next to the "Grille." We'll introduce ourselves and cover some basics then convoy to a local creek in the Dahlonega Gold Belt.
What Creek - Working on getting clearance for Kellogg Creek off Kellogg Creek Rd. Let you know when cleared. If not, Blankets Creek is the back up.
Gold Flea Market – At 9:00 a.m., same place. Bring any equipment you make, and any extra gold prospecting/panning items to sell.
Wear - Wear long pants (may be briars, ticks, chiggers & poison ivy) & tall rubber boots (Walmart, ACE Hardware) or waders (Dicks). Water shoes work, too, while water is warm,
Bring - Pan, classifier, sucker bottle, vial (Little River Marina Store sells), a full-size, long-handle spade shovel partly for safety reasons (Big Lots, Walmart), water, folding stool or bucket to sit on, mosquito lotion, and zip lock bags to water proof your electronics/wallet. Travel light (back pack is handy; at any thrift store).
Optional items - Snack, camera, cell, vial, eye dropper, crevice-ing tools, & lanyard to hold your sucker bottle.
Supplies - Most of us use the Garrett Standard Gold Panning Kit that Little River Marina Store sells for about $30 as it has everything you need except boots and shovel. They also sell the what/where/how-to Recreational Gold Panning Guide, and the Lake Allatoona Gold Map plotted with about 30 confirmed gold creeks. Also drinks, snacks and mosquito repellent.
Panning Rules, Etiquette and Safety - This creek is on Army Corps property. They only allow gold prospecting in the stream bed with pans and shovels. They do have enforcement authority. See www.sam.usace.army.mil/Portals/46/docs/recreation/OP-AL/Docs/Gold%20panningpolicy.pdf for details.
Who Else - Kids, friends, novices, observers, & pets welcome. NO need to RSVP.
Also: If like outdoor activities, see the attached.
