Well after last weekends testing, it really didn't take much arm twisting to get my good friend Tom and his son Billy out to do some digging. We had to clear an old 4-wheeler trail from fallen trees and clear some underbrush to the get to the hole with what we were using. Like I have said before this is completely owned private property with a valid licensed mining permit as a commercial mine. That said we brought in some better digging equipment to get the main channel opened up and most the overburden moved out of the way for further exploration of the gravel layer. Now for some fun pics, we definitely had a fun day. What the hole looked like before digging commenced. Moving the digger down the channel. Easy digging with this. We even had some little helpers today. He's 7 yrs old and about 4' tall. Nearing the end of the day, what a trench.

I hope Scott's not jealous he's no longer the main backhoe on the job!!!LOL No, not jealous, hey if I had an excavator ( yes I am certified to operate; backhoe, or trackhoe) that hole would have been opened up long ago. But with the original hole I proved I can dig by hand as well, I probably could have done it myself in 3 days of digging. I would have been there that day too, but was required to be else where. Just now we have a much larger spot to work in. Having Tom's backhoe is basically working smarter not harder.

Seeing my one grandpa was a strip-pit miner using one of those drag-line excavators after coal, and my other grandpa was a farmer back when there was no tractors to plow the fields and a rock-hound after gems; its in my bloodline to dig by hand. Gold Reaper has more of a better ring to it, than human excavator don't want people getting the wrong idea either,(don't want people to think I'm so kind of vampire). But have been called gopher and tunnel rat in the past, gold reaper just sounds better.
