Just got a call from my dive buddy's. They hit it big today in a black water river. Two dives. The water is still cold, high and ripping current but it was worth the effort, in my opinion. These are the two guys who have been hacking on me, Astro and you gold prospectors. Can't wait to get in the water!

How do you locate these under the water?

It's experience mixed with pure luck. Luck being the the big advantage, lol. You can only see about a foot and in only in the narrow beam of your light. I zig zag across the river looking for a shelf or gravel bed where things tend to collect. Or, just dig holes in the sand hoping to get lucky. Ron uses a spear fishing pole and stabs through the sand listening for the crunch of gravel before digging holes. Looks like they found some cool sharks teeth too. Can't wait to get back in the river. No shovels or sifters are used. Fan with a hand to blow away the sand, facing upstream so the silt and sand will go behind you. Most areas are 60 feet or less in water depth.

Sweet, I would love to do that. I have millions of sharks teeth that I have been collecting since a small kid some very large.

Haven't pulled up any logs but have gotten lots of nice pet wood. There are lots of hand cut logs in the river I dive in Florida. Someone is harvesting them now. Needs a special permit and has lots of restrictions on how to remove. But, they are doing well. The trees were cut in the 1800's and have been underwater since. Gets big $$$ they claimed, uregold.

anybody ever go after logs around there? Logs? I think they do on TV. There are a few places down towards beach that collect barn wood.

Indyme maybe you could set up an outing or something for artifact and fossil hunting. Plus I really like gems a well. It would be cool to learn a little and listen to some of your big adventures. And maybe even see some of your treasure you have collected. I have a young son who is very interested in rocks and fossils. My wife likes the gems so I could make it a family outing. Its just an idea
